Gundogan pens new Dortmund deal

Borussia Dortmund have announced that Ilkay Gundogan has extended his contract with the club just over two months on from indicating he would not do so.

Dortmund stated at the end of April that Gundogan would not sign a new deal at Signal Iduna Park, meaning the player was set to move on with a year left to run on his contract.

The Germany international had been linked with moves to Manchester United and Dortmund s Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.

However, Gundogan s agent recently indicated that the midfielder could stay at Dortmund and he has now put pen to paper on an extension that will see him remain with Thomas Tuchel s side until June 2017.

I am glad that we finally have clarity again and I can keep playing football for Borussia Dortmund, Gund…

Mario Suarez on Milan radar

Spanish daily newspaper that AC Milan are hot on the trail of Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez.

It is no secret the Rossoneri are in the market for midfield reinforcements, with up to three midfielders expected to leave next summer.

According to the latest reports, AC Milan are considering a summer bid for Atletico s Mario Suarez.

The highly rated footballer has been frustrated by the lack of first team football and he even attempted to leave Vicente Calderon in January.

Mario, nonetheless, scored a very important goal in the Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen, but one good performance is unlikely to change his status in the squad.

It remains to be seen whether long-term suitors Inter Milan will rekindle their interest at the en…

Bayern Munich 3 Ingolstadt 1: Alonso and Rafinha spare unconvincing champions

Xabi Alonso and Rafinha spared Bayern Munich s blushes as the reigning Bundesliga champions came from behind to beat Ingolstadt 3-1 in unconvincing fashion in the Bavarian derby on Saturday.

It was by no means a vintage display from Bayern, who were given plenty of problems by their visitors at the Allianz Arena before making it three wins from three in the league, but their superior quality ultimately saw them through in spite of a few nervy moments, with Rafinha s late strike eventually killing off Ingolstadt s chances.

The away side gave Bayern a bit of a scare when Dario Lezcano broke the deadlock early on, but Carlo Ancelotti s men looked unfazed and restored parity shortly after through Robert Lewandowski.

Ingolstadt remained a real threat with Lezcano and …

Leverkusen sign Kampl from Dortmund

Bayer Leverkusen have completed the signing of Kevin Kampl from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund.

Kampl makes the move to the BayArena on a deal that ties him to the club until 2020 and sees the Slovenia international return to a team with whom he spent much of his youth career.

The midfielder originally joined Leverkusen in 1997, but left in 2011 after making just one senior appearance.

Following spells with Onsabruck, VFR Aalen and Red Bull Salzburg Kampl made the move to Dortmund in January, but he leaves Signal Iduna Park having featured only 19 times.

Kampl s switch comes on the same day that Son Heung-min left Leverkusen to join Premier League Tottenham.

I am looking forward to returning to Leverkusen, where I made my first important…

English players now diving masters – Wenger sympathises with referees

Arsene Wenger has sympathy for referees trying to spot simulation, as the Arsenal manager feels English players have become masters of diving.

Simulation has been a hot topic after Tottenham s Dele Alli appeared to dive in the penalty area in a dramatic 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Sunday.

He was duly handed a third yellow card for simulation in his Premier League career, taking him level with Wilfried Zaha.

Alli and Bournemouth s Adam Smith are the only two England-born players who rank in the top six for most bookings for diving, although Raheem Sterling and Zaha products of English academies after being born in Jamaica and Ivory Coast respectively are also among the frequent culprits.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino appeared to defend Alli s actions afte…

How does Aubameyang compare to new Arsenal team-mate Lacazette?

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang s move to Arsenal could see the striker paired with Alexandre Lacazette in a new-look Gunners attack following Alexis Sanchez s departure.

Aubameyang cost Arsenal £56million to sign from Borussia Dortmund, taking the club-record tag off new team-mate Lacazette.

The former Lyon man was priced at £46.5m, so Arsene Wenger now has more than £100m of attacking talent at his disposal despite Sanchez heading to Old Trafford, not to mention boasting Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the supply line.

We have analysed the merits of Aubameyang and Lacazette with the use of Opta numbers. Will they be well-suited to playing together?

Odegaard slams Hegerberg´s World Cup absence

Martin Odegaard said the Norway women s team deserves better in scathing criticism aimed at Ballon d Or-winning striker Ada Hegerberg following her decision not to play at the Women s World Cup.

Hegerberg has not represented Norway for the last two years and explained her reasons for not making herself available for the tournament in France, saying her experience at the 2017 European Championship left her broken mentally , while criticising the state of women s football in Norway.

She described how playing for her country had left her feeling like a worse player but Real Madrid midfielder Odegaard fired Hegerberg a broadside in a message on Instagram.

Maybe you could find something better to do than to disturb the preparations of the national team for the Worl…

Messi disguised all of Barcelona´s problems – Koeman

Lionel Messi was like a tyrant in training and helped to disguise everything wrong at Barcelona in recent years, according to head coach Ronald Koeman.

Barca were left without their talisman in August when Messi departed for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer after they were unable to fulfil a new contract that had been agreed with the superstar forward.

The six-time Ballon d Or winner scored 672 goals and assisted 265 more across 778 appearances during a trophy-laden 17-season spell at Camp Nou.

Koeman s side have made a slow start to the post-Messi era, having dropped points to Athletic Bilbao and Granada in their first four LaLiga games and lost 3-0 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

And with his job reportedly under threat amid speculation …

Talking Point: How Ndombele became key to Mourinho´s Tottenham plans

Tottenham have generally enjoyed playing Chelsea this season. A penalty shoot-out win in September saw them progress in an EFL Cup tie, while October s 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge took them top of the Premier League.

Yet Jose Mourinho s men head into Thursday s clash with a little trepidation. After back-to-back defeats and just one win in four in the league, and with Chelsea playing largely without pressure as they get to grips with life under new boss Thomas Tuchel, the onus is on Spurs to deliver and underline their credentials as top-four contenders.

With Harry Kane injured and Son Heung-min without a goal in six games, getting three points looks far from straightforward. There is, however, an unlikely Mourinho acolyte who could lead the charge at Tottenham H…
